AFM® activated filter media 0.5-1.0 mm
AFM® activated filter media in self-sterilising glass 0.5-1.0 mm.
AFM® is a bioresistant and self-sterilising filter media. The raw material used to make the AFM® is recycled green glass which is ground into the optimal shape. The crucial stage of the production of this filter media is the activation process. This process creates a mesoporous structure with a huge catalytic surface which makes it self-sanitizing and bioresistant, and which results in the prevention of the biofilm formation.
The larger is the surface, the higher is the bioresistance performance and AFM® has a surface which is 300 times greater than quartz or glass sand.
Comparison between quartz, sand and AFM®
AFM® has a Surface which is aroung 300 times greater than glass or quartz sand.
AFM® from 0.5 to 1.0 removes over 95% of all particles in water up to 4 micron.
For the replacement of sand or filter glass, it has to be considered that sand has a weight of 1,450 kg/m3, instead the specific weight of AFM® is 1,250 kg/m3. Therefore, it needs around 15% less of AFM® based on the weight.
Example: if the filter has 150 kg of sand, only 125 kg of AFM® are needed.
AFM recommends stratification:
AFM® grain 1 = from 0.5 to 1.0 mm around 70%
AFM® grain 2 = from 1.0 to 2.0 mm around 15%
AFM® grain 3 = from 2 to 4 mm around 15 %
For the filters with diameter smaller than 1000 mm and for all plate filters, 70% of AFM® 0.5 -1.0 mm and 30% of AFM® 1.0 -2.0 mm are recommended.
AFM® 2-4 mm is, instead, recommended for filters with larger diameters, in order to have a proper filtration.
A sack with 21 kg replaces a sack of sand with 25 kg.
